PHJC General Chapter 2025: A Journey of Transformation and Oneness<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The 26th General Chapter of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ (PHJC) has officially opened, bringing together 39 delegates from around the world to engage in a sacred process of reflection, discernment, and visioning. With the theme Transforming: One Body in Christ<\/em>, this Chapter invites the congregation into a profound space of spiritual and communal transformation, rooted in the wisdom of Scripture and the lived experience of Sisters across nine countries.<\/p>\n

In her opening address, General Superior Sr. Judith Diltz, emphasized the symbolic power of bread-making as a metaphor for transformation. From seed to nourishment, bread represents the stages of growth, struggle, and renewal that mirror the PHJC journey from its founding in Dernbach in 1851 to its global presence today. \u201cOur past, present, and future are one creation\u2014one Congregation,\u201d she reminded.<\/p>\n

Transformation, as noted by spiritual writer Sr. Joyce Rupp, involves both personal and communal \u201cdying\u201d and rebirth. This Chapter is not only about structural planning but about creating space for a blessed future to emerge\u2014through listening deeply to the Voice within and responding to the Spirit\u2019s invitation to change from the inside out.<\/p>\n

The idea of “critical yeast,” shared by peacebuilder John Paul Lederach, resonated strongly. Small groups, alive with purpose and presence, can bring about exponential transformation. In this spirit, the Chapter embraces the strength found in smallness\u2014flexibility, intimacy, and adaptability\u2014as a sacred gift, not a limitation.<\/p>\n

Delegates are joined in prayer and support by Sisters around the world, co-workers, families, and others, all contributing to this dynamic and hope-filled Chapter. As the Congregation seeks to become the bread that nourishes a hungry world, the assembly affirms its willingness to be shaped and baked anew by the Master Baker.<\/p>\n
